An apple a day...MY A##!

It is very often that I learn something new about my self, as I get older. Such as the patch of brown hair on my back - NO WAIT, now its grey!

Another such discovery happened durring my recent "health kick". Yesterday was a rather productive day. I had much rest, got work done, and even did some sweatin' on my stationary bike.

I had a healthy "organic" breakfast, and was finding a way to curb my appetite. I found a leftover vegitable tray, from the holiday weekend, and began to nibble on some celery. I LOVE CELERY! I also found a collection of sweet peas in a leaf pod. I had one - and LOVED IT! So I grabbed a bunch and began to take my dog out.

It wasn't 5 minutes later that I began to feel sharp "indigestion-like" pains, and my saliva was getting thick. My eyes began to bulge. I had recognized this before. Its an allergic reaction to F##king SWEET PEAS! Can you beleive this?

I can eat a bag of OREO doublestuffs in ten minutes. 20 slices of pizza, pounds of chocolate, burgers by the hand full, but give me one friggin' sweet pea - and I can die! You can't make this s##t up! I recognized the symptoms because, as of recently, I have become allergic to apples, pears, some nuts, and even just being outside in the spring time - go figure!

Apparently, anything "good for you" is bad for me!

E-A-G-L-E-S EAGLES!!

Once again the collaboration between myself and the Doc's Place proved to be a match made in heaven, as the bar was forever raised regarding how a tailgate party should be handled. With kick off not until 4:30 that afternoon, we were gonna be in for a long and incredible day.

The morning hours were spent hosting an incredible breakfast whipped up by Geoff Heib and Larry Stella. Then, at 11:00am, I decided to begin the show. It was a dream come true. I always wanted to play the Spectrum - I just didn't think it'd be in the parking lot! As usual I played non-stop until it was almost game time. One of the highlights of the day was receiving a beautiful banner to display behind me. The banner had my name in rich Eagle-green letters and featured the Eagles' logo at both ends.

I had a blast and met some great new friends! For additional info on the event check out Michelle Stella's blog athttp://numberonetailgate.blogspot.com/2008/09/round-three.html

What's in a voice?
Over the years I have spent much of my career imitating other singers. People compliment me all the time on how great my voice is, but I don't think they've actually heard my real voice. I spent so much of my show sounding like everyone else, and though I am grateful and accept the fact that I have a versatile voice, I don't believe I have an original voice.

Therefore it is with deep regret that I give props to two men who had very original and distinct voices. Both men sadly died last week and I admired them greatly. Lets start with country singer Jerry Reed. I'll alway remember him as the fun loving wise cracking truck driver in Smokey and the Bandit, but he was a great singer and songwriter. I still play the theme song "East bound and down'" at the shows. I can still see him with that dog, "Fred". and will always have a smile when I think of him.

The other great voice was that of Don LaFantaine. If you don't know him, you definitely have heard him. He's better known as the "Voice of the Movie trailers and coming attractions" He is most notable for starting the phrase, "In a world..." and you may best know him from the Geico commercial.

Both men have made a living using their voices and doing what they love. They have made millions doing it. I look to these guys as inspiration and will miss them and their voices!

Never say, "NEVER!" - again!

I try to keep my temper cool as much as possible, but several things happened, while performing for private parties this summer, that made me throw my hands up in disgust and say, "Thats it! I will never, NEVER perform another private party again!"

In many people's eyes, musicians are looked down upon. Though I can't blame them. The mainstream has musicians pegged out to be either artsy snobs or flat out losers.

I don't drink, don't smoke and have never been high in my life, and I do confess that I too have looked down at other musicians - not so much because they were losers, but because they were not working up to the best of their abilities! Regardless, there were several affairs I did, this past summer, where I was treated with utmost disrespect. Because of this, I foolishly decided to never do private parties again.

For the past few months I have been turning parties left and right. I didn't mind, and I wouldn't be taking a very big hit - so the money wasn't an issue.

Then I got a call from a lady who spoke with me earlier this summer. I had forgotten all about her, until she called this week. She asked if I could do her wedding. I said - rather abruptly, "No!". She pleaded with me and reminded me of our conversation months before. I not only remembered the call, but I remembered how we laughed on the phone that day.

As she pleaded with me to reconsider, I couldn't help thinking how much fun it was to talk to her again. Before I could even think, my tounge lashed out of my mouth and I heard myself say "Yes, yes, I'll do it!" This made her day, and it would eventually make mine as well. You see, had I just hung up the phone when I said, "no!", then I would not have realized all the things I had in common with her and her fiance.

It was a great talk and I hung up the phone and felt really good about the call. I then began to feel bad for shunning away so many other people. I know there will always be jerks to deal with, I can't run from that. But with every 1 jerk that crosses my path, there are 100 great people that I am glad to have played for.

So yes, I am gonna continue doing private parties (unless I'm at The Doc's Place that night) and I know, in the end, I am the one who eventually gets to create the outcome of the day. So if I want a good show, I'll make a Great show!
